nulls are human beings who possess an innate or "learned" ability to completely negate the effects of magick and the unnatural. nulls cannot be affected by magick, nor can they use magick, perform rituals or use wonky artifacts. other than that, they're fairly normal people who are usually unaware that anything is going on. most nulls are simply born that way while a few become nulls after being exposed to unnatural stimuli.

rp'ing a null (yikes!): no, you can't start out as a null pc...but you can learn. witnessing (or being the victim of) the unnatural can trigger psychic "antibodies" that can insulate and subsequently protect the human mind from further assaults. if you make a stress check vs. the unnatural and get a matched success result, you become "vaccinated" against future attacks and/or phenomena. this means that all magickal effects targeting you or occuring within your immediate area suffer a -10% shift. for every subsequent matched success against the unnatural, you receive additional -10% shifts. when all 10 hardened spots have been filled, that person becomes a null -- totally immune to the unnatural. if the pc fails any unnatural checks along to route to null status, he loses all of his protective shifts and can never gain any more. bummer.
