there once was a pole

that supported a post and on that

sat a stool with a fidgity ghost

and the rickety spindle he held in his hand

supported a strange and a wonderous land

six miles up, six miles across

(well, more or less square, and all covered with moss)

you'd look up all day and not see a sight

so you'd sit and you'd wait until day became night

and still you'd be blind to this fantasmic land

supported by spirits with spindles in hand

 

but every year, without fail, without fear

a very long ladder of bones would appear

and if you were brave and you didn't look down

you'd climb to the sky and into the town

a town full of monsters, a town full of freaks

a town with insidious, hideous geeks

 

frightful, delightful and otherwise spiteful

if you weren't on your guard, you might get a bite-full

a bag full of sweets and a mask on your face

you'd slither and skitter all over the place

for just so diguised, they'd be so surprised

to find out what is roaming right before their eyes

a child, a child! the spooks hiss and scream

 

and then you wake up...
